Welcome to the website of Mucherla Global School!

What's new?

Accreditation done, three classrooms to be built (July 2011)
By  May, five  classrooms  were built  thanks to the funds we  were able to raise. Many thanks to all! Together  with the  indication  to  rebuild the remaining  classrooms as soon as possible, this secured accreditation of MGS.  This meant that the exams of the 10th class students are recognised. Who did a great job: all passed, and many with marks above 83%! Unique in the history of MGS and an impressive achievement of the village children, six of which will now get a free seat in high-rated junior colleges.

Old classrooms need rebuilding (Jan 2011)
Priority for the next months is rebuilding the eight old classrooms, a precondition for the accreditation of MGS and thereby the possibility for 22 students to write central exams in May. We are urgently looking for funds for this.

Boys' bathrooms completed (December 2010)
Thanks to the support by donators and the Indian Rose foundation, MGS now boasts 20 urinoirs and 6 toilets. The boys are happy with this much needed improvement in hygiene and take care of cleaning themselves. Cordaid and Dare2Go have supported purchase of tables and benches, which is much appreciated as well

Bathroom for boys needed (December 2009)
Due to the quick expansion of MGS over the past couple of years the existing bathroom facilities are not sufficient anymore. Priority is given to the girls, and therefore new toilets for the boys are required. We are looking for funds and hope that the new year can start with improved hygiene!

MGS stages show 'Unity in Diversity' (July 2009)
Over 110 MGS students performed a large programme in Khammam, including theatre and modern and classical dance from India, Africa and Europe. Cyrelle designed the show and trained the students in three weeks, which became a big success. This was great outreach for MGS as the city crowd of over 1500 was surprised seeing the village children doing all this. Chief guest was the Deputy Executive Director of Khammam District, who said that schools should start thinking in terms of rights, equality and unity.

Jumpers for the cold months (February 2009)
Many MGS students suffer in winter from the low temperatures, wearing only short-sleeve shirts of their uniforms. Therefore we and Eva called on everyone here to contribute for Christmas €2 for a long-sleeve t-shirt. This was so successful that we could buy jumpers for the 300 students who couldn't afford warm clothes. These are even warmer and will last longer. The children are really happy and comfortable. Our warmest thanks to everyone supporting this!

MGS is growing! (August 2008)
After a successful school year 2007-08, with many new students from neighbouring villages enrolled in MGS, a new year has started. The number of students is now 463! Therefore we're very happy that two of three new classrooms are ready for use. We hope to have the resources for the third one soon. Leontine and Cleo from the Netherlands spent three weeks in Khammam district and Mucherla to investigate the Millenium Development Goal 'all children going to school in 2015'. Read more (message from the principal).

January 2008
The year 2007 has ended on a very positive note: the three news classrooms are close to completion. We warmheartedly thank the Dutch foundation Indian Rose for their very timely financial contribution. In addition, since September several volunteers from Belgium and the Netherlands have been helping MGS in teaching and activities, much to the joy of the students. Read more.

September 2007
Three new classrooms are essential to accomodate the high number of new admissions in the new academic year. Thanks to the financial support of Femmes d'Europe construction of the buildings has started. However we are still looking for additional funds in order to ensure that by next month not only roofs are there but also the walls can built, so that the students can use it soon.

May 2007
We warm-heartedly thank all donators of the past year, and Volens and Ashwini Welfare Foundation, by which support MGS has run successfully and all 15 10th grade students have passed their exams. For the coming school year the principal has received many requests for new admissions and we expect to pass the 300 student mark in June. This will also increase the financial viability of MGS as the parents who can afford it will pay a monthly fee (those who can't, contribute in-kind). However to accomodate the students three new classrooms, and tables and benches are required, for which we are seeking resources and requesting your support!

April 2007
Another successful school year has been completed and MGS is closed for summer holidays. The 10th grade exam results are expected soon. On Parent’s day a 1000-odd crowd from the village could enjoy a 4 hour programme made by the students, with dance, singing, drama, karate, and a touching speech from Sowjanya.

October 2006
Stefan was with MGS in August for 3 days and saw the new school year has started well. Ex-MGS student Haleema is now teaching (besides studying) the little kids English - a wonderful development! Rees’ wife Alice’s school in Khammam is also running well, and exchange with the MGS students happens also now and then.

September 2006
The Belgian non-profit organisation Volens also supports MGS!

June 2006
The 10th class student's all passed for their state exams, three of them with excellent marks (more than 500 out of 600). Annual day on April 15th was also a success with hundreds of villagers coming to see the plays, dances and speeches by MGS students. Until June 15th the school is closed for summer holidays (with day temperatures over 43 °C).

January 2006
Her name means 'poem', and Kavitha (9th class) wrote one:
My school is a garden
Our teachers are boundaries

Students are plants in it

And our principal is the gardener

November 2005
New website in support of Mucherla Global School is on-line! Built by us (a group of enthusiastic volunteers) and thanks to pro-bono work an ITV Content employee.

August 2005
After devastating pre-monsoon storms in May, the school was deprived of several classroom roofs, coconut trees and many schooltools were damaged. The mess was terrible and the school had to be closed for several weeks. With Marga Steijns’ legate donation, MGS was almost completely rebuilt and could be re-opened, to the joy of the students and the village.
